Bert Crowfoot to receive 2024 Digital Publishing Leadership Award
The NMAF is delighted to announce that Dr. Bert Crowfoot, the founder of the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society, is the recipient of the 2024 Digital Publishing Leadership Award, which is the highest individual honour the Digital Publishing Awards can bestow. Learn more

- Amber Bracken’s “In Gjoa Haven, a greenhouse creates new possibilities,” published in The Globe and Mail, is nominated in Best Photo Storytelling and Best Topical Reporting: Climate Change. Amber is also nominated a second time in Best Photo Storytelling for “‘When is enough enough?’ Downstream from the Kearl oilsands spill, residents grapple with what comes next,” published in The Narwhal.
- Sarah Boumedda is nominated in Best Topical Reporting: Climate Change for “Partir en fumée : L’été 2023, le début du reste de nos vies,” and again in Best Feature Article for “Langues maternelles en péril – Pourquoi les enfants d’immigrants perdent-ils leur langue maternelle ?,” co-written with Sandrine Vieira. Both articles were published in Le Devoir.
- Kelly Grant is nominated twice in Best Feature Article (Long), for “A breath atop the mountain” and “22 weeks, zero days,” both published in The Globe and Mail.
- Meagan Gillmore picked up two nominations in Best Lifestyle Storytelling, for “Why siblings are the forgotten caregivers” and “After more than a decade in a wheelchair, I taught myself to walk again,” both published in Chatelaine.
- Brandi Morin is nominated for Best Feature Article (Long) with “‘Today is a good day to die’: Brandi Morin reports from a new RCMP raid at Fairy Creek” and also for Best Topical Reporting: Climate Change with “On the ground with Indigenous communities fleeing a climate inferno.” Both stories are published by Ricochet Media and IndigiNews Media, and the latter story was also published in collaboration with Real News Network.
- Dustin Patar’s work in the Arctic is nominated in two categories. “The Arctic gets its annual checkup,” published in The Globe and Mail, is nominated for Best Photo Storytelling while “Last bastion of ice,” published in Canadian Geographic, is nominated for Best Topical Reporting: Climate Change.
