The National Media Awards Foundation is thrilled to be hosting a long-overdue, in-person event in Toronto on September 29th, 2022.
Join us at the Globe and Mail Centre for a day of career development and an evening of reconnecting and socializing with friends and peers.
Recently built in the heart of Toronto, The Globe and Mail Centre features a large outdoor terrace with stunning panoramic views of Lake Ontario and Downtown Toronto.
Participants can attend the career development sessions in the afternoon, the social soirée “A Celebration of Excellence” in the evening, or stay for the entire day.
Tickets are FREE for gold winners of the National Magazine Awards, NMA:B2B, Digital Publishing Awards as well as Canadian-based journalism students.

Spotlight: Making the Most of Internships
Colin Leslie is a journalist in Toronto who has worked at the Medical Post for 25 years including the last 13 as editor-in-chief. He’s won gold and silver National Magazine Awards:B2B and before that a number of Kenneth R. Wilson Awards. He’s supervised editorial teams of different sizes over the years. The Medical Post is a six-times a year magazine and a daily newsletter for Canada’s doctors and is a magazine with a 56-year history.
Samia Madwar is a senior editor at The Walrus and a member of the board of directors at Magazines Canada. She got her start in journalism with a fact-checking internship at Canadian Geographic.
Stephanie Bai is an Associate Editor at Maclean’s Magazine. She has previously worked at The Globe and Mail, Broadview Magazine, and The Green Line. A graduate from the University of Toronto, she was the Managing Online Editor and launched The Varsity‘s first digital magazine. She has also received the 2022 National Magazine Award for Best Emerging Writer, and was nominated in the Long-Form Feature Writing category.
Angela Pacienza is the Executive Editor at The Globe and Mail, where she’s responsible for building a strong newsroom via culture, workflow and the professional development of journalists. She has oversight over programming across all platforms, as well as the editing and visual teams. She’s passionate about closing the gap between storytelling and audience, as well as leading and designing new approaches to digital, print and visual journalism.
Erica Lenti is a writer and editor in Toronto. She is currently the deputy editor, features at Chatelaine.
Luc Rinaldi is a senior editor at Toronto Life. His writing has appeared in Maclean’s, Canadian Business, The Walrus and Reader’s Digest.
Colin Schultz is the news editor of Hakai Magazine. Before joining Hakai, Colin wrote for Smithsonian Magazine’s Smart News, and was a contributing writer and editor for the American Geophysical Union’s newspaper Eos. His freelance writing has appeared online or in print for Popular Science, Discover, New Scientist, Scientific American and others.
Colin lives more than 500 kilometers from the nearest coast in Stratford, Canada.
Carmine Starnino is editor at large for The Walrus magazine.
Daniel Fish is the senior editor at Precedent Magazine. He graduated from Carleton University’s journalism program and has a master’s in English from the University of Guelph. Daniel won Gold at the National Magazine Media Awards for his profile of Michael Bryant.
John Montgomery is an art director and graphic designer. Currently art directing Reader’s Digest Canada and Sélection, he’s previously worked on Canadian Business, MoneySense, Toronto Life, Financial Post Magazine and Taddle Creek magazines, as well as worked with Nelson Education, the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, and the Ontario Association of Architects. John has been nominated for several National Magazine Awards, and has won two Canadian Cover awards. A part of the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association’s Pros On The Road series, he has spoken numerous times on cover design, as well as done consultations with publications on what they can do to help improve their design. John has been a judge for the National Magazine Awards multiple times, and was an editorial category judge for the Society of Illustrators’ 62nd annual. He is a PAC member for Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Illustration program and Centennial College’s graphic design program.
Carol Moskot is an editorial art director and creative director based in New York with 25+ years of magazine and custom publishing experience in the US and Canada. Her studio, Carol Moskot Design + Direction, focuses on the intersection of publication design and story-telling and works with non-profits and agents of change to help them tell their stories for the common good. Carol is an award-winning designer specializing in art direction, photo direction and branding. She is creative-problem solver, adept at drawing together an inspired team of photographers and stylists, producing photo shoots and steering great illustrators. She has won over 80 awards for her work from the National Magazine Awards, Society of Publications Designers and Advertising and Design Club of Canada.
Although he studied printmaking at art school, and was then a bookseller out of college, Brian Morgan has worked as a graphic designer and an art director for the past 26 years, 20 of these in editorial design. He has worked for (or on) Maclean’s, Saturday Night, C Magazine, Dose, Literary Review of Canada, enRoute, and The Walrus. At this last he was the art director for nine years. With the Toronto-based art director, curator, and producer Rachel Wine he co-art directed Precedent. Brian has also sat on the executive committee of the National Magazine Awards. Currently he lives and works in Montreal and co-art directs Maisonneuve with Rachel.
Dominique Lamberton is a writer and editor with more than a decade of experience in publishing, having held roles at some of Canada’s top media brands. Newly based in Calgary, she’s the managing editor at city lifestyle magazine Avenue. Prior to joining the team at Avenue, she was a senior editor at Air Canada enRoute and, before that, an associate editor at Chatelaine. Her work has also appeared in Best Health, Canadian Health & Lifestyle and re:porter.
Alysha Vandertogt started her career in publishing as an intern with Cottage Life in 2016 and is now the magazine’s Senior Associate Editor. She’s a graduate of Queen’s University and Centennial College’s Book, Magazine & Electronic Publishing program, and is also the recipient of multiple awards from the Canadian National Magazine Awards, the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, and the International Regional Magazine Association.
