Last chance to enter the 2019 DPAs

As the month comes to a close, so does the Digital Publishing Awards’ call for entries: Friday, February 1st is your last chance to submit your work to the awards. Entries will be judged by three-member juries, made up of Canada’s top digital publishing talent. You can read more about the judging process here.

For categories, there are 23 to choose from: with this expansive lineup, Canadian writers, editors, art directors, graphic designers, web developers, photographers, illustrators, and videographers, are sure to find a good fit for their work. Best of all, Gold winners in individual categories will take home a $500 cash prize!

The entire submission process takes about ten minutes. Start by clicking here to access our online portal. There, you’ll enter the details of your submission(s) and pay the entry fees. Easy!

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter for updates—that’s where we’ll be announcing the nominees. Also note that the deadline to nominate someone for the Emerging Excellence Award or the Digital Publishing Leadership Award is Friday, March 1, 2019.

Early-Bird Deadline for the Digital Publishing Awards

Early-birds, you’re almost out of time—our discount comes to an end this Friday! If you want to save $25 per entry, be sure to make your submission(s) by midnight (ET) on January 25th. After that, entry fees will be $125 each.

All Canadian digital publications and digital creators are welcome to enter the awards. Many of the categories have a $500 cash prize for the gold winner, while our national publicity efforts promote all finalists and winners. Placing in the Digital Publishing Awards means getting your work read and recognized.

What’s more, the submission process is simple: review the categories, then click here to access the online submissions portal, and follow the steps provided. (Freelancers, remember that we also offer the freelancer support fund.)

Work from 2018 that falls into the business-to-business category can be entered in the inaugural National Magazine Awards: B2B. The final deadline for the NMA: B2B program is February 1, 2019.

Call for Entries: 2019 Digital Publishing Awards

The NMAF is pleased to announce the Call for Entries for the 2019 Digital Publishing Awards, honouring the best of the Canadian digital publishing industry. Digital publishers and creators will be recognized in 23 different categories, with awards for individual creators and editorial teams. Submissions will be accepted starting January 2, 2019, and the deadline is February 1, 2019 at midnight ET.

Writers, photographers, videographers, and other content creators whose work appeared in a Canadian digital publication in 2018 can submit to the DPA individual categories. Awards for individual creators include a cash prize of $500.

Freelancer Support Fund 

Freelance creators can submit their first two DPA entries at a 50% discount thanks to our Freelancer Support Fund.

Rules and Judging

Please see the DPA Rules for a complete guide to eligible content and publications. Note that to be eligible for the DPAs, a digital publication must have a permanent editorial staff in Canada, and be published in either English, French, or both languages. Publications do not need to be exclusively digital to be eligible.

Submissions and Deadline

Submissions can be made online at submissions.digitalpublishingawards.ca. Submit before Friday, January 25, 2019 to be eligible for the Early Bird fee of $100. The final deadline for DPA submissions is Friday, January 31, 2019.

The deadline to nominate someone for the Emerging Excellence Award or the Digital Publishing Leadership Award is Friday, March 1, 2019.

Announcing the Categories for the 2019 Digital Publishing Awards

The National Media Awards Foundation is pleased to announce the line-up of categories for the fourth annual Digital Publishing Awards. The awards will be across 23 categories, including one new category; Best Editorial Newsletter.

To review its Digital Publishing Awards program for 2019, the NMAF worked in consultation with a panel of industry professionals. Our thanks to this year’s Advisory Committee members, who provided invaluable guidance to crafting the 4th annual DPAs, include:

Notable changes for 2019 include:

  • The awards for the three Best Service Feature categories (Lifestyle; Careers and Personal Finances; Family and Health), have been merged into one single category rewarding excellence in service journalism.
  • One new category has been added to the program: Best Editorial Newsletter. This award honours the outstanding work of an editorial team in creating original and engaging content via a regular email series that best serves its intended audience by maximizing the potential of digital publishing.

The DPAs are open to all Canadian digital publishers— including those that support established brands in consumer & B2B magazines, newspapers, broadcast and other journalism, as well as those that serve their audiences exclusively as digital brands—published in either English or French.

Call for Judges: 4th Digital Publishing Awards

 

#dpa19 (1)At the National Media Awards Foundation, we’re getting ready to honour the best in journalism, at the 4th annual Digital Publishing Awards and the 42nd National Magazine Awards. We’re currently accepting nominations for individuals to serve on the juries, and join the great tradition of recognizing achievement by the creators of Canadian magazines and digital publications.

Ideal candidates should fulfill one or more of the following criteria:

  • Internationally renowned journalist, editor, designer or other expert with an interest in supporting the NMAF fulfill its mission;
  • Editor, art director, publisher, web editor, developer or other staff member (past or present) of a Canadian digital publication or magazine, whether or not your publication participates in the National Magazine Awards or Digital Publishing Awards;
  • Freelance or staff writer, illustrator, photographer or digital creator, where a significant portion of your work is in Canadian publications (especially if you have been nominated for or won a National Magazine Award or Digital Publishing Award yourself);
  • Journalist (print, broadcast, digital) with expertise in a particular field represented by one or more NMA or DPA categories (such as photojournalism, service, arts & culture, fiction, etc);
  • Academic or industry leader with expertise in a particular field;
  • Professionals and leaders from related cultural sectors, including the visual arts (film and television), the literary arts (book writing & publishing) and the performing arts (theatre, music);
  • Bilingual: Not all of our judges need be bilingual, but all awards juries will have at least one bilingual member.

The NMAF welcomes applications from individuals who bring different industry perspectives – from recognized leaders to celebrated emerging talents. We also aim for the judging panels to reflect our country’s diverse Indigenous, cultural, and regional communities.
