2020 Digital Publishing Leadership Award

Hey, digital publishers—do you have a team member who has made outstanding career contributions that deserve recognition? Consider nominating them for the 2020 Digital Publishing Leadership Award

This award may be given to a writer, visual creator, designer, developer, publisher, or other digital publishing professional. It costs only $25 to submit a nomination, and the deadline is March 2, 2020.

How to Nominate a Colleague

Entries must consist of:

  • A letter of introduction (PDF) from a publisher, editor, art director, or other colleague, which should include:
    • a brief bio of the candidate;
    • a summary of their career achievements; and
    • links to specific work and media to be considered by the jury.
  • The submission must also include supporting letters or testimonials from at least two (2) other colleagues.

The entire submission should consist of a single PDF file not more than 10 pages in length. 

Judging Process

Judging for this award is done by members of the NMAF Board of Directors, alongside senior members of the Canadian digital publishing industry. Please note that we keep applications under consideration for two (2) years.

Previous winners have included Kathy Vey (2019), Brodie Fenlon (2018), and Kenny Yum (2017).

Last Call for #DPA20 Entries

Mark your calendars: Thursday, January 23rd is your last chance to enter the 2020 Digital Publishing Awards. Entries will be judged by three-member juries made up of Canada’s top digital publishing talent—this is a great opportunity to get your work read by the best of the best! With 23 categories to choose from, Canadian writers, editors, art directors, graphic designers, web developers, photographers, illustrators and videographers are sure to find an excellent fit for their work. 

Start the submission process by visiting our online portal. Then, enter the details of your entry and pay the fee. You’ll want to follow us on Twitter (we’re @DPAwards), where we’ll announce the nominees this spring. 

Lastly, though the final deadline is January 23rd, the deadline to nominate someone for the Emerging Excellence Award or the Digital Publishing Leadership Award is March 2, 2020. 

Early Bird Deadline for the 5th Annual Digital Publishing Awards

Hey, early birds—we want to remind you that our discounted entry fees come to an end on January 16th, 2020. After that, entry fees increase to $125 (+HST). 

Who’s eligible to enter #DPA20? All Canadian digital publications and creators are eligible (we even have a Freelancer Support Fund that allows independent writers and creators to submit two entries at the discounted rate of buy-one-get-one free!). There’s a $500 cash prize for all individual gold winners, while all nominees and winners benefit from the interviews, networking sessions, best-practices guides, and other engagements our Foundation facilitates.

We’re officially accepting entries for the 2020 Digital Publishing Awards, recognizing the best of Canada’s digital publishing content. This year, the awards are composed of 23 distinct categories, including one new category—Best Feature Article. Note that the early bird deadline is January 16th, and the final deadline is January 23rd

Freelancer Support Fund

Freelance writers, designers, videographers, podcasters, photographers and illustrators who enter their own work for consideration can take advantage of our Freelancer Support Fund. Simply submit two entries, select “Freelancer Support Fund” at the payment stage, and within 24 hours we’ll send you a revised invoice reflecting the buy-one-get-one-free discount. 

Rules and Judging

Prior to submitting entries, please be sure to review the DPA Rules, which include useful info on eligible content and publications. Importantly, to be eligible for the DPAs, a digital publication must have a permanent editorial staff in Canada, and be published in either English, French, or both languages. Publications do not need to be exclusively digital to be eligible.

The submissions process is completely digital—visit submissions.digitalpublishingawards.ca to enter. Submit before January 16th, the early bird deadline, and pay only $110 for your entries. After that, submissions are $125 and must be received by January 23rd

Nominations for the Emerging Excellence Award and the Digital Publishing Award will be open until March 2nd, 2020. (For submissions made between January 24th to March 2nd, please email them to info@digitalpublishingawards.ca).
